Every Sunday our churches are full; but are we and our society transformed by the love and light of Christ? We sing, “I’m walking in power!” but are we, really? Many of us can quote scriptures, but when it comes to aligning our lives with God’s precepts, we are nowhere to be found.
Where is revival? Where is the power of God as of old? The power of God is in the place of prayer. This is where our fulfillment in life springs from. The lack of prayer altars reduces us to mere churchianity. Here are 7 reasons to revive your prayer life, starting now:
1. Prayer is the believer’s connection to Heaven: The hunger for the things of God is birthed in the place of prayer. Prayer keeps you in tune with Heaven, and you don’t have to buy credit to keep the lines open. Our Father is always listening to us.
2. Prayer keeps you from sin: It is the presence of God generated in prayer that helps you put sin behind you. Prayer promotes holiness. When you haven’t been praying, falling prey to temptation is inevitable. Jesus said, “Watch and Pray, that ye enter not…”
3. You need direction for your purpose and assignment: Speaker and Preacher Johnson Abbaly, once said to a group of us at a meeting back in University, “There are some prayers that we pray, that we need not pray, if we had prayed.” How true.
Prayer sharpens spiritual perception. When you’re prayed up you can tell the enemy’s offering from the will of God. You may have knowledge of your purpose and assignment, but it is in the place of prayer your mode of operation is revealed. Thank God for preachers, teachers and counsellors; but they don’t know everything. Go to the Wonderful Counsellor, the Extraordinary Strategist, in prayer.
4. You want God’s will to be done on earth: God’s will is done in Heaven at every point in time, but His will is not going to be done that same way on earth unless we pray. This is why Christ asked us to pray each day, “Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” We don’t want God’s will to just be preached, taught, written or sung about; we want His will to be DONE. So we must pray.
5. Prayer produces the power you need for each day: “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled…”~ Acts 4:31 When you’re not prayed up in the morning, your work becomes a chore. Without prayer, your strength will fail. This is why Jesus told Simon Peter, “But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” Prayer keeps you refreshed. Stay fresh.
6. The end of days is upon us: You don’t need a prophet to tell you this. A look at the happenings around us confirms what the Bible says about the end times. So, what should we do? “The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.” ~ 1 Peter 4:7
7. Jesus prayed, and told us to: “Jesus spoke a parable this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint.” ~ Luke 18:1.
We not only obey Jesus, we emulate Him. “However, he continued his habit of retiring to deserted places and praying.” ~ Luke 5:16.
The Master prayed. What are we?
