The Brain Builder Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) invites young social innovators in Nigeria to apply for the Yvote Naija CivicTech Hackathon. Through this program, it aims to identify young social innovators who can develop solutions and work with other stakeholders to improve civic participation in the electoral process.
The organizers of this program will select winning ideas from applicants and deploy them before and during the 2023 general elections. They will implement these ideas at the Local, State, and Federal Government levels.
Applicants must be social entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 35 years. Their solutions should be for problems within the electoral process that they have clearly defined. It should have the potential to make a widespread impact, must be easy to use, and should encourage learning among its beneficiaries.
The Brain Builder Youth Development Initiative is executing this program in collaboration with Christian Aid Nigeria.
Benefits
The winning social entrepreneur from this hackathon will receive a grant of $5,000 for their solution.
Eligibility
Applicants should meet these conditions:
- Should be a Nigerian social innovator aged between 18 and 35 years
- Must be registered to vote
- Should be able to collaborate with other young social entrepreneurs
- Must have practical knowledge and experience that they will need to apply tech solutions to the problems they seek to tackle
- Must have a reliable internet connection with which they’ll connect to other parties in the hackathon
- Should have a good knowledge of the political and electoral systems in Nigeria
Note: the program is especially interested in hearing from female applicants.
Applications will remain open until June 30, 2022.
