Today we want to share a few tips on things you should know about travelling during this season.

Stay Up To Date With Weather Forecasts

The weather may not always follow the forecasts word for word, but it can help you prepare for rainfalls. In Nigeria, we believe in a rain break called ‘August Break’. This is a time of the season where the rains are few and far in between. They are also the best times for travelling during the rainy season. But even then, you still need the weather report. There are many online weather websites you can look up if you miss the weather report on any local TV channel the day before.

Mind The Temperature

When travelling in the rainy season, it is not advisable to drink icy cold water when in an air-conditioned vehicle. If you want to drink cold water, keep the heater on or open the windows rather than use an AC.

Go on a Food Adventure

Since the weather is wet and dreary, why not opt to eat hot, fatty and spicy foods to spike up the internal temperature. A hot plate of pepper soup with goat meat, catfish or cow tail would be a superb choice when you arrive at your destination. If you haven’t considered the role of food on a chilly day when travelling, you can try it out this season.

Stay in Accommodations With Heaters

The chances of being wet when you go out during rainy season are high. It doesn’t matter if it is mild showers or a brief skit with heavy rains on your way into a car. So ensuring the cold doesn’t become a challenge, make sure there are heaters and dryers at your accommodation. We know clothes rarely dry on time during the rainy season and travelling with a laundry bag of wet clothes isn’t ideal. So having a dryer to speed up the process is just perfect. And with heaters in the house or attached to the bathroom shower, you can easily take a hot bath when you get back in.

Incorporate the Weather into Your Activities Plan

You don’t have to sit indoors just because it is raining outside. You can plan activities that take advantage of the rain. You can schedule indoor activities like visits to museums, indoor recreation centres, art galleries, shopping malls, cinema and more. Or you can engage in outdoor activities like swimming in a warm spring, surfing, snorkelling, visiting a waterfall, or going on a city tour is sunny days. You can also just brace yourself for the rain by carrying an umbrella, rubber shoes, and rain boots. Travelling during the rainy season isn’t all bad. You’ve just got to prepare your mind to work with the season.   Featured Image Source: Smart Chronicles
