On the internet, there are always people dishing out skincare advice here and there. It is quite difficult to differentiate the ones one should adhere to and those that should not even be attempted. By now, you should be familiar with the basic skin care tips- drink water regularly to remain hydrated, have a healthy sleep routine to avoid eye bags and puffy skin, bathe regularly, and brush your teeth.  As Nigerians, our skin is different from those in Western countries. Different skin color, different weather, different kinds of foods, etc. Having flawless skin is not unique to females alone as many think. Both men and women should have healthy skin. There are different skin types- dry skin, oily skin, combination skin (dry and oily), and normal skin.

Your skin type will determine the kind of skincare product(s) you will need. Some products are more effective when used on a particular skin type.  This tip is the first and most important in taking care of your skin. People with oily skin are more prone to have acne.   1. Have a skincare routine

Skincare routine depends on your budget and lifestyle. It can range from basic to advance.  For a basic skincare routine, you need a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. A cleanser is to wash dirt from your skin. Moisturizer is to give your skin moisture. Sunscreen protects your skin from the harsh effect of the sun. For those that want to take skin care a step further, they can include toners, serums, essence, oils, etc. Also, always exfoliate your skin.

Limit the kind of products you use. Don’t apply just any kind of product to your face. Use only necessary products.  Do your research before applying any skincare products to your skin. You don’t have to use all the products in the market.

  1. Maintain a healthy diet.

Eating healthy is paramount to having flawless and glowing skin. Your diet should be a combination of balanced and essential foods your body needs. Eating junk regularly or foods that have high fat is unhealthy. 
  1. Pay attention to your hygiene

Your clothing must be neat always. Dirty clothes are enemies of good skin. Your bed sheets and pillowcases should always be properly washed.  Your underwear should be as neat and well-kept as the clothes you wear outwardly.
