Ever since Asa dropped the song “Fire on the mountain”, she stole our hearts, locked it in her music (pun intended) and continued to tend to us with awesome art hitherto.
Here are some of the reasons why we love Asa:
- Her Lyrical Prowess: Asa’s lyrics are the soul of her music. It’s hard to listen to Asa’s lyrics and not clearly see the message she conveys. Asa has always had a habit of telling stories through her lyrics which make them even more relatable. Think of songs like “Jailer”, “Awe”, “Ilu” and a host of other amazing tracks that will remain evergreen. It’s not just the stories for us though, as she also teaches vital life lessons from these songs. We can relate to the love, the care, the heartbreak. All of these emotions seem to come to life as we listen to Asa.
- Her Voice: Asa has a beautiful voice, no one can dispute that. Her voice provides the perfect platform for the delivery of the message that she conveys via her lyrics. Smooth, calm, soothing.
- Her Musical Artistry: Asa isn’t ‘one type of music’ woman, she meddles into almost every genre of music. From Jazz on “Ilu” to Pop on “Be my man” to Ballad on “Bamidele”. She has proven to us without a doubt that she is indeed an all-around musician. Her art form is also displayed in her videos. We see videos like “Fire on the mountain” which shows us of the things people face that some of us have overlooked. We’ve also seen her capture happy sceneries like those in “Eyo” showing amazing scenes of people living happily and content in a world of care and love.
- Her Look: Asa has a cool calm look that suits both her and her message. If you think Asa, you must think dreadlocks and glasses. Asa rocks these so beautifully and it’s one reason we love her.
- Her Guitar: The guitar takes a special place as we don’t get many alternative artists in Nigeria. Especially on stage performances, when she performs so soulfully and the strums if her guitar sends just the right notes that are welded together to form the story that is her music.
Many things that have kept Asa in our hearts and her songs on our playlists, from her first album “Asa”, down to “Bed of Stone”. It’s all of the above and much more. It’s the fact that she gives us timeless music, music that’d stay evergreen in our hearts.
