In the midst of a music industry where profane lyrics and semi-nude music videos are the order of the day, there are a few who stand out, not just because of the kind of music they make, but because of their lifestyle. Here is a list of five popular entertainers in the music industry who are born again Christians.

Weird MC

Weird MC, born Adesola Adesimbo Idowu, is a rapper, songwriter, and producer. Popular for her Yoruba lyrics, she is one of Africa’s most popular female rappers. The UK-born Ogun state native has released three albums and several singles between 1990 and 2006, including hit song Ijoya. In an interview with Saturday Beats, Weird MC said the death of her very close friend Nomoreloss Osinuga, left a void in her heart. It was after the experience that she “found the light”. Her frequent social media posts are a testimonial to her relationship with God. Weird MC, who is currently on hiatus, says she will be back with new songs.

Cobhams Asuquo

Cobhams is one of the most sought after Nigerian music producers. Many of his works have turned out to be major hits including Asa’s highly acclaimed international album Asa. He is the former CEO/ Head of Productions of CAMP (Cobhams Asuquo Music Productions). Cobhams produced the first ever One Africa concert in Houston, Texas, the famous Rhythm Unplugged show, and was on the production team of Coke Studio Africa – Season 3. He is committed to producing wholesome music and entertainment of international standard. Cobhams recently revealed in the video for his song, Angels All Around, that he was introduced to Christ by his sister, Mathilda.

Lynxx

Formerly “Nigeria Bad Boy”, Lynxx started making posts on his Instagram page in 2015 suggesting his Christian faith. He officially announced in a 2016 Instagram post:
“…so on this very day last year… I had an encounter that changed my thinking, my outlook, my stance on a lot of things and ultimately my life… Its been an amazing year of self-discovery, truth and the beginning of an intimate relationship with God and Living in Purpose. — I wish u all the same evolution and self-discovery through Christ when your time comes. — God bless everyone for the support, well wishes and many messages (although I try to reply as much as I can….) say a prayer for me on this very special day! All things are possible as long as u put God in the driving seat! & no I didn’t quit music… Album out soon”
Serve You” was his very next single. Which talked about his Christian faith.

Timi Dakolo

Timi emerged winner of the very first season of Idols West Africa in 2007. He started singing in his church choir at age twelve. In 2008, he survived an attack and was left with a flesh wound from a bullet. Timi continues to make music that inspires and uplift. His performance of Find you there on live TV on The Voice Nigeria reality show in 2017 was, for him, an opportunity to draw the consciousness of viewers to the reality of heaven.

Obiwon

Obiora Obiwon was born to a folk and classical music composer and arranger. The banker-turned-music-artiste is currently strictly a gospel minister. The track, Onyinye, from his 2006 debut album, Overture, became an instant hit and started his rise to fame. Even with the fame and celebrity lifestyle, he felt a void and was often disturbed, this was in addition to his frequent dreams where God promised to take him places if her came with Him. The R n B singer said “The sinner’s prayer” at a New Year’s Service in 2007 and decided that he was going to make songs that would bless the world. Since then he has only done gospel songs and has featured in numerous gospel concerts.   Nollywood has also had its fair share of people who chose to “answer the call”. We will share a few at a later date.
