The Golden Eaglets win the World Cup. On November 8, our U-17 National Soccer Team won the tournament for the fifth time in Santiago, Chile and became the second team ever to retain the trophy having won it in 1985, 1993, 2007 and 2013.
CCHUB launches a N1 billion fund. In collaboration with the Omidyar Network, Bank of Industry and Venture Garden Group, Lagos start-up incubator, CCHUB launched Nigeria’s first Social Innovation Fund. The fund which is about $5million would be invested to provide infrastructure for social enterprises.
Blogger buys a Banana Island mansion. This may be commonplace in first world countries but when it made the news that popular blogger, Linda Ikeji had bought a $3 million mansion in Banana Island, Lagos, the media went crazy with all manner of buzzes. Well the dust has now settled but scaling Linda’s bar would now be the prize that many upcoming bloggers would be looking to achieve. Well done Linda.
Alliance Hospital conducts an open-heart surgery. Alliance Hospital in Abuja made history in 2015 by becoming the first private hospital to conduct an open-heart surgery. Raising the bar in healthcare delivery by successfully conducting the modified Bentell operation which entails a complicated grafting of sensitive valves to the heart, this feat is sure to restore hope and possibly reduce the impact of medical tourism to the country’s thinning dollar position.
In all, 2015 was a year in which many bars were raised. And our prayer is that greater things will happen in the coming year.
