The ICLTFP will enable non-profits headed by the transitioning leader to remain fully active after their leaders’ departure, and make it easier for successors to emerge who will maintain the functional momentum that the organizations have built up thus far. The ICLTFP is organized by the Association for Research on Civil Society in Africa (AROCSA) and the Center of African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI) at the Wits Business School in Johannesburg, South Africa. The program is funded by the Ford Foundation.
Benefits
NGOs and their leaders who are selected for the NGO Leadership Transition Fellowship will benefit from it in the following ways:- Transitioning leaders will receive a $3,000 stipend covering living expenses for one month in South Africa
- Get single furnished accommodation or living space in an apartment shared with other fellows
- Visa application and economy class ticket fees paid in full, and travel health insurance coverage
- Receive support to build infrastructure that enables leadership succession
- Enable the emergence of young, smart, and vibrant leaders to take over from existing NGO leadership

Eligibility
This fellowship is open to people who meet these conditions:- A founder or Executive Director of an NGO who is transitioning away from their leadership role at the NGO
- Received approval from their NGO’s board to take a sabbatical from work between March and May 2022
- The leaders who wish to transition should be older than forty years
- Be a paid, full-time staff of the NGO they head
- Have filled an executive leadership position for at least ten years
- Certified medically fit by a qualified healthcare professional
The Application Process
Persons interested in being fellows can apply for the fellowship on the AROCSA website. They are expected to submit the following:- Valid international passport
- Curriculum Vitae
- Completed electronic application forms (valid for six months from March 2022)
- Two letters of recommendation (one should come from the NGO Board Chair and must disclose that the board approves the applicant’s entry for the fellowship)
- A personal statement of between three and five pages that discloses why they would like to participate in the fellowship
