This program exists to enable the WFP to leverage the capabilities of qualified startups to build and support pandemic preparedness in low and middle-income countries. The ultimate aim will be to fast-track the recovery of communities from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Food Program Digital Health Innovation Accelerator is driven by the WFP Innovation Accelerator, with support from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), KfW, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the GIZ.
Benefits
Startups accepted into the digital innovation accelerator will benefit from it in the following ways:- Their projects will be considered for the WFP Sprint Program, which will last for six months and provide up to $250,000 in equity-free funding
- They will have access to mentors and global partners in public health
- More funding could be available for mature innovations with a proven social impact
- Teams selected from the pool of applicants will be invited to take part in a virtual Bootcamp that’s slated for January 2022

Eligibility
Applicants must meet these conditions to be considered for the accelerator:- They must be registered as a legal entity in their home country
- Their solution should follow the open source and open data approaches in the creation of global goods
- They should work with information exchange mechanisms that conform to global standards
- Applicants should have a presence in the country in which their solution is being implemented
- Innovation must have a proof of concept, existing traction, and a well-defined route to scaling
The Leadup To The Accelerator
Applications for the WFP Digital Health Innovation Accelerator will remain open until Sunday, November 21, 2021. Submitted applications will be judged based on these criteria: impact and scalability, team diversity and gender balance, novelty, traction, and the viability of their business model. Startups chosen from the field of applicants will participate in an innovation Bootcamp from January 17 to 21, 2022.
