24 Hair Tips for Growing and Retaining Healthy Hair Part 2

Whether you are a naturalista or rocking your relaxed hair, one thing we all need to grow, keep and retain a healthy hair. So here are a few tips to help you achieve healthy hair, prevent hair loss and breakage irrespective of your hair type. Read the first part here. 13. Massage you scalp: Massaging your scalp 2-3 times a week helps to stimulate your hair follicles, thereby increasing blood flow to your hair. 14. No microfiber or towel drying: This might come as a shocker to you, but contrary to popular beliefs, microfiber rips your hair out while towel drying frizzes the hair. So its better to either leave your hair to air dry or use an old t-shirt. 15. Invest in light natural oil: It is important to oil your hair with light natural oil daily. I particularly recommend using Jojoba, because it is light and helps keep your hair tangle free. 16. Refrigerate your leave-in conditioner: Talking from experience, a cold leave-in helps greatly to seal your hair’s cuticle after washing. This is extremely helpful if you can’t take a cold water rinse and it will also increase the shine in your hair. 17. Moisturize: Make it a habit to moisturize your hair as needed. You can use your sense of touch to decide if your hair feels dry and if it does then moisturize. 18. Seal your ends: One of the best thing you can do for your hair is to invest in a Jamaican castor oil (Believe me, your hair will thank you for it). I have found this oil to be one of the best at protecting the ends from splitting. It’s so thick and protective, causing ends to clump together. You can use it to seal after every wash and before styling. 19. Don’t use too many different brands: You must strive to minimize how many hair brands you use. This is particularly important, so that when your hair begins to respond and blossom, you would know what brand’s really working. In other words: please curtail your PJ (product junkie) ways (smiles). 20. Embrace Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega 3 fatty acid is very good for your hair. 21. Clarify monthly: Hair products always build up on the hair and it is important to thoroughly cleanse the hair to get rid of this build up, especially if you only co-wash (condition wash). You can either use a clarifying shampoo once a month or add a tablespoon of baking soda while shampooing your hair. Apple cider vinegar is also another option. 22. Invest in Multi-vitamins with Methylosulfonylmethame (MSM): I bet you are saying “Enn_Mae has come again” ( Yeah I know it’s a mouth full). Please take multi-vitamins with Methylosulfonylmethame (MSM), Vitamin B and other hair growing vitamins. Vitamin B such as Biotin (Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H) and Niacin (Vitamin B3) have been known to be essential for hair growth while MSM is believed to extend the lifespan of your individual hair and also alleviate dry scalp. 23. Tie it up: Its very important to tie your hair up and even more important to make ‘satin’ your hair’s best friend. Sleeping in a satin scarf or a satin pillow case prevents your hair’s moisture from being robbed and also prevents unnecessary hair tangling and breakage. 24. Eat a balanced diet: Your hair can only be as healthy as you’re so don’t compromise on good food.       About the Writer: Eniola Adeniji is a woman after God’s own heart, a motivational Writer, Speaker, Fashion and Photography addict.
