Coach Gernot Rohr and his charges are geared up for Tuesday’s (September 7) encounter away in Cape Verde on a quest of solidifying their place atop Group C after Liberia beat the Central African Republic 1-0 on Monday, September 6, to stay in second place with three points from two games, while Nigeria occupies the top spot with three points in one game, pending the outcome of today’s game. Nigeria will be without the services of UK-based players such as Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, and others at the Estádio Municipal Adérito Sena in Mindelo, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Super Eagles will also be without the services of Samuel Kalu and Tyronne Ebuehi, after incorrect COVID-19 results showed them positive, leaving them behind in Nigeria while the rest of the squad departed for Cape Verde. Ola Aina was also excused from the squad for family reasons. Despite being without some key players and left with just 19 players to prepare for the encounter, Gernot Rohr has insisted that Nigeria is prepared for the “physical challenge.’’
“I trust these boys that will play for the first time for the Super Eagles. Cape Verde wants to win because they drew their first game… We have been preparing since we are in Lagos, but Cape Verde had more days to recover. It will be a physical challenge, but we will be ready’’ Gernot Rohr
The game will hold by 5 pm (WAT). Source: Complete Sports Featured Image Source: Punch Newspapers
