2022 AFCON Qualifiers: Eagles Seek Revenge As They Depart For Freetown

  In the early hours of today (Monday, November 16, 2020), the Super Eagles of Nigeria departed for Freetown, Sierra Leone aboard a chartered flight for the return leg of their 2022 AFCON qualifiers game against the Leone Stars.

Nigeria threw away a four-goal lead and settled for a 4-4 draw in the first leg encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, on Friday, November 13. Despite the draw in Benin, the Eagles still have a big chance to redeem their image as a win in tomorrow’s (Tuesday, November 17) game will guarantee them the ticket to the AFCON in Cameroun cum 2022. Speaking ahead of the clash in Freetown, Super Eagles star man, Samuel Chukwueze, who scored the third goal on Friday for Nigeria, has assured Nigerians of victory on Tuesday to save the disappointment of last week and secure the Nations Cup ticket early.

Gernot Rohr will be banking on the experience of the likes of Chukwueze and Ahmed Musa in attack as star striker, Victor Osimhen, has been ruled out with a shoulder injury which saw him substituted with 15 minutes left to play on Friday. The Super Eagles will also be hoping to extend their lead in Group L with a win after the Republic of Benin beat Lesotho in their third game to edge closer to the three-time African champions.
