The three-time African champions comprising of a team of 25 players and officials hit the Cameroonian city of Garoua by 11:05 pm (WAT) on Wednesday onboard an Air Peace jet in quest of a fourth African title. Nigeria features in the 33rd edition of the continental showpiece and will play all their group games in Garoua. On Tuesday, January 11, the Augustine Eguaveon led Eagles will confront the Pharaohs of Egypt (5 pm WAT), before squaring off against Sudan on January 15 (5 pm WAT), and their final group game against Guinea Bissau on January 19 (8 pm WAT). Addressing the team before their departure at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Wednesday evening, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation Dr Mohammed Sanusi expressed his belief in the squad.

“I wish you good luck at the tournament on behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria. We know how professional you are and we know you will take the same temperament to the AFCON. We pray against injuries and COVID-related health issues,’’Sanusi said.
“The NFF is ready to give you all the support that you need, on behalf of the Government of Nigeria. The NFF President, Mr Amaju Pinnick who is also a member of the AFCON Organizing Committee will join you in Cameroon in two days time. Some of us will also be coming to give you the necessary support and encouragement.”Team captain Ahmed Musa who was part of the 2013 AFCON-winning Super Eagles assured Nigerians of the team’s resolve to bring home the continental title.
