Head coach of the Nigerian senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, Mike Brown, has stated that his boys are ready for the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket set to commence in Kigali, Rwanda. The Nigerian side will start their campaign against the Malian national team on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, and coach Brown is not impressed with the timing of the event just after the Summer Olympics in Japan but insists his charges are ready to rule Africa.

“They will be ready on time for the competition. It is just bad timing for FIBA Africa to have the tournament, but FIBA decides to have the Asian and African games at the same time as the Olympics, and NBA players cannot participate in both because that is the rule.” Mike Brown
On why a lot of regular faces were missing in the Nigerian squad, Brown revealed that it will be “ridiculous’’ to invite the missing players to camp after a stressful summer that saw them participate in the Olympics as some are currently in training camps.

“It’s been a long summer for the players. They came to camp on June 20, went through the Olympics process and asking them to come here to Kigali in Rwanda will be ridiculous. It has been a long summer for everybody, including the coaches, and on top of that the camp right now is at the same time when a lot of training camps are happening.” Brown
However, the coach revealed that a lot of stars that participated in the Afrobasket qualifiers and the Olympic camp were interested in making the trip to Rwanda, but training camps with their club sides made it extremely difficult. Source: Peoples Gazette Featured Image Source: Premium Times NG
