Are Feyinsetan, national coach of the Nigeria Para Powerlifting team, is confident that Nigeria will not only make a great host to the 2019 Powerlifting Championships, but will go on to win the event.
According to a report by the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the International Paralympics Committee-sanction championships will serve as part of the qualification criteria for the 2020
Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Feyinsetan believes that the event, which has been scheduled to hold in Lagos in January 2019, will avail the Nigerian team strengthen their world position in the sport.
“Having a championship of this magnitude in the country is good for our athletes and it will be another opportunity to do what we are known for.
“I am confident that we are not just hosting but we are hosting to win.The participating countries will come well-prepared because the championships will also serve as qualifications for the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, so we are aware of the task ahead.”

The coach also solicited the support of the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development and private organisations in helping to handle logistics needed to prepare the team ahead of the championships.
