With few days left to bid farewell to 2019, Connect Nigeria presents some of the major highlights of 2019.

2019 General Election

The fate of every democratic nation on earth is decided by the citizens’ choice of leadership. Nigeria on February 23, 2019 reelected President Muhammadu Buhari into power. Members of Nigeria’s Senate and House of Representatives were equally elected on the same day.

Social Media Week 2019

Themed STORIES: With Great Influence Comes Great Responsibility, participants from all over Africa converged at the Landmark Event Centre, Lagos for the 2019 edition of the Africa’s largest tech and media convocation, Social Media Week Lagos (February 3-8, 2019). The event was aimed at conditioning the mind of the average African towards the role of collective responsibility in driving growth in the continent.

Connect Nigeria Business Fair

This year, Connect Nigeria hosted the 7th edition of the largest gathering of SMEs in Africa, the Connect Nigeria Business Fair. The event was held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, from April 26-27th 2019, and saw established businesses, startups and emerging entrepreneurs benefit from the unique opportunity presented by Nigeria’s leading information portal. Some of the activities in the event included master classes, workshops, and exhibitions. We look forward to the 2020 edition of the fair which will hold from March 6-7, 2020 at the same venue. 

Connect Nigeria Writers’ Conference

The 2019 Connect Nigeria Writers’ Conference was held on September 21, 2019 and was free for the next generation of Nigerian writers. With the theme The Business of Writing: Translating Writing Into Money, the event was aimed at exposing Nigerian writers into money making platforms through educative master classes and workshop sessions.

Nigeria’s Independence Day Celebration

October 1, 2019 marked Nigeria’s 59th year of independence from British rule. As the country closes in on its sixth decade as a sovereign nation, celebrations for the day started with a national broadcast of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Independence Day speech.

Lagos International Trade Fair

From November 1-10, 2019, the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos hosted the 38th edition of the Lagos International Trade Fair. Organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the international fair saw businesses from different parts of the world grace the 10-day event and market their trades on the global platform. This year’s event raised the bar as the first African Day celebration in the history of the fair was celebrated.

GTBank Fashion Weekend

Nigerians witnessed fashion at a high level from November 9-10, 2019 during the Guaranty Trust Bank Fashion Weekend held at the GTCentre, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos State. Master classes, which educated participants on the fashion business, and runway shows, which presented some of the finest fashion outfits and designs by high profile fashion designers, thrilled guests at the event.

Founder Institute Lagos Velocity 2019

World’s largest pre-seed accelerator, Founder Institute, hosted the maiden edition of its Founder Institute Lagos Velocity program on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at the Fajemirokun Hall of Commerce House Building, No.1 Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State. The event also marked the graduation ceremony of the first batch of the Founder Institute Lagos graduates who had gone through a 14-week rigorous entrepreneurship training program and who received mentorship from renowned entrepreneurs.

ELOY Awards 2019

The 2019 edition of the Exquisite Lady of the Year awards (ELOY) was held at the Lagos Continental Hotel on November 25, 2019. Aimed at celebrating Nigerian women who were outstanding in the course of the year, the awards had its 11th edition this year and presented some of Nigeria’s exceptional ladies with awards.

iCreate Regional Skill Competition Lagos 2019

iCreate Africa

Landmark Event Centre, Lagos State played host to the biggest skill competition in Africa from December 4-5, 2019. The iCreate Regional Skill Competition witnessed skillful displays at its peak in Nigeria. Organized with the major aim of rebranding and projecting the value of skills as well as preparing the next generation of African skilled workers, the two-day event did not fail to meet expectations.
