Talking about the coming games of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers,
D’Tigers head coach,
Alex Nwora is positive that if all works out just well for the Nigerian Senior Men’s
Basketball team, captain
Ike Diogu will have to lead the team with his experience.
Nwora painted Diogu as the glue that currently binds the young D’Tigers team together, having co-captained the 2015 Afrobasket-winning team in Tunisia and lead the team in 2017 to a silver finish,
relinquishing their Afrobasket title to Tunisia.
Nwora told the Media Department of the Nigeria Basketball Federation in Lagos:
He [Ike Diogu] knows that we have an unfinished business and he has embraced the leadership role as the Captain of the D’Tigers. He is the foundation that holds us together. Hopefully, he is going to keep leading these young players that are coming to the National Team for the first time, and teach them the right way to represent Nigeria, like he has been doing over the years.”
— Nwora
So far Nigeria has won her three group games (
NGR 102:86 UGA, NGR 108:53 RWA, NGR 82:59 MLI) with three more to go in the preliminary group phase of the qualifiers.
