Team Nigeria added more medals to their collection in the Day Two of athletics event at the ongoing 12th All Africa Games in Morocco. Nigerian duo of Raymond Ekevwo and Usheoritse Itsekiri won Gold and Bronze in the men’s 100m final, respectively, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Ekevwo set a new personal best time of 9.96 seconds (+1.6) to win the 100m race and equally qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics ahead of Ivory Coast’s Arthur Cisse, who came second in the race with a time of 9.97 seconds. For the third spot, Nigeria’s National Champion, Usheoritse Itsekiri, with a personal best of 10.02 seconds made it to the medals stand as Bronze winner.
In the men’s Shot-Put event, Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi set a new All African Games record with his throw of 21.48m eclipsing the old mark of 20.25m set by Frank Elemba, to clinch Gold for Team Nigeria.
For the men’s 110m Hurdles final, Abejoye Oyeniyi overcame a slow start to finish the race in second place and win Silver medal for the West African nation in a time of 13.90 seconds. Representatives of Team Nigeria are currently having a great outing in the continental showpiece.
