- Don’t mask odours. For deodorizers to work efficiently, it is important to make sure that the source of unpleasant smells is removed. So carry out basic steps like disposing garbage regularly and airing worn clothes.
- Carpets can trap odours, especially during the rainy season. Sprinkle baking soda at least 30 minutes before vacuuming.
- Place tea bags in small spaces (bathroom, shoes, and closets) to absorb smells.
- To scent the whole room, tape a strip of air freshener or sprinkle drops of vanilla or other essential oils to your air conditioner filter, or tape the air frehener strips to fan blades.
- Boil peels of orange, lime or lemon and vanilla extracts in a pot of water to freshen up your kitchen.
- For refrigerators, wipe with equal proportions of vinegar and water when cleaning.
- Place a bowl of baking soda in cupboards (and refrigerators) to absorb musky odours.
- Soak plastic storage containers in warm water and baking soda to get rid of food smells.
- Place orange peels over hatch then run a mixture of hot water and vinegar down sinks to declog and deodorize them.
- Even the washing machine can retain unplesant smells. Add a tablespoon of vinegar to the fabric softener to deal with it.
