10 Things You Should Know About Sunday Oliseh

Sunday Oliseh, the current coach of the Nigerian football team, is a year older today! In the midst of growing tension in the Nigeria Football Federation, his appointment as a coach was a welcome development which attracted the commendation of football fans all over the country. Today, we celebrate him not just for his super cute smile and charisma, but also his professionalism on and off the football pitch. We have also compiled a list of 10 things you should know about this awesome footballer and coach. 1. Sunday Ogorchukwu Oliseh was born on 14 September 1974 in Abavo, Delta State. 2. He is a former Nigerian footballer who in his active player career played as a midfielder. 3. He is the current coach of the Nigerian national football team. 4. Oliseh played 54 international matches, scored two goals for Nigeria, and played at the Football World Cups of 1994 and 1998. 5. Oliseh also participated in the Olympic gold medal winning team of 1996. 6. He is mostly remembered for scoring the winning goal in the group stage match against Spain in the 1998 World Cup, as Nigeria prevailed 3–2. 7. In January 2006, at the age of 31, Oliseh retired from professional football after playing a half season for Belgian club, R.C. Genk. 8. His younger brothers, Azubuike and Egutu, are also professional footballers; his brother Churchill Oliseh is a Nigerian football manager and his nephew is Sekou Oliseh, an international footballer. 9.
