Avoid traveling on flights with liquids or gels. If you must travel with them, place them in clear plastic bags and pack them in your checked luggage. If you only have carry-on luggage, then make sure to carry the quantity or standard recommended by the airline (always check the airline website for recommendations.)
Know the number of bags and weight of luggage permitted for both carry-on and checked baggage. The figures differ per airline, so ensure you find out before packing else you risk paying for excess luggage.
If you must travel with books, don’t stack them on top of each other.
Don’t over pack your bag. Reorganising an over-packed bag after it is searched at an airport by screening agents at the inspection point might be difficult and embarrassing. If you want to carry water on a flight, pack an empty bottle in your hand luggage and fill it after the checking point.
Wrap delicate items like china plates or breakables with tissue paper. Not toilet rolls, preferably the square types used for serving tables because they are thicker. If you are traveling with a bottle of wine to meet with your fiancée’s relatives, you can place a layer of clothing underneath, around and on top it. If you can find Wineskin, Jet or Vining bags, I would recommend you use any of them instead.
To avoid wrinkled clothes, roll them rather than folding them. It works well for sports shirts, skirts, and trousers. You can also layer the clothes before folding/rolling them together to conserve space.
You can stuff small items in your shoes when you are packing. Items like socks, face towels, scarves, even a t-shirt can fit into a shoe. Also, wear heavier clothing items like a bulky sweater or suit during the trip rather than putting it in the bag. That way you get to maximize your box space.
Get those 5-in-1 traveling bags and use each piece to pack something specific. Use the smallest size bag for underwear, the next size to it for beauty items or toiletries, and so on. You can even improvise and use eyeglass cases to keep wires, adapters, and USB chords.
Make sure you travel with color-coordinated clothes. Ladies, Pick staple pieces you can switch up with accessories like scarves, bags, brooches, shoes or other jewelry. Clothes like a handless collar shirt that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion or little black dress. Men, a good white Tee (both sleeveless and short sleeve) can serve as an under-shirt as well for your long sleeve shirts. Also, get dual piece clothing like those trousers with secret zippers you can undo to turn them into shorts. If you are traveling for a function, take a neutral colored suit you can pair with any color of shirt. Don’t forget to travel with different ties or accessories to change up the look.
No matter how long you plan to stay, a week’s worth of clothes should be enough. If you plan to buy more clothes or carry more stuff back, then carry an extra traveling bag.
