If you are keen on spreading your wings wide and getting your product not only to people who are in your back yard, but also people who need your product or services from different parts of the world, then you will need to help the internet help you. Since everyone has access to the internet, the online market is very competitive. A unique word search could make all the difference. See it this way, buying something from a physical store gives you direct communication with the seller, but how about online? Things do not work the same way. Most times, people are left to make choices based on what they are shown, after they make a search. Search Engine Optimization is also known as SEO. It works by strategically placing your products, websites…etc in the best position to be found by potential customers. Every day, millions of people search online for everything, from zoos to shopping malls to nice pants. This means there are millions of opportunities for businesses to appear in front of potential customers, and this is where SEO comes in. It acts by enabling search engines to understand better what you have to offer, so when someone searches using keywords related to your business, you are more likely to appear in their results. As time goes by, search engines try to give users only information that is as direct as possible. Some of these results are organic while others are inorganic.

The words you use on your websites, for example, are a great determining factor for the appearance of your website in the search results. Search engines also consider other factors such as geographical locations, the number of websites linked to your website etc. The search engine algorithms analyze pages while taking into account a lot of factors or signals, in order to determine the sequence to which the search results appear. To make your site more attractive to search engines, it is best to let your content be unique, engaging and most of all relevant, because these search engines need to find and show the most useful content. In order to keep tabs on what search engines value the most and make sure your website gives it to them, a good place to start would be to find relevant keywords that people are searching for and see how these search queries fit into your business. You can do this best by putting yourself in the shoes of a potential customer e.g A bride to be in Calabar who wants to get a wedding gown is most likely going to search for “ the best wedding gown store in Calabar” using a search engine like google. If you have a website that sells wedding gowns in Calabar and it doesn’t carry any of these keywords, you are less likely to show up. Basically, the keywords do not have to be 100 percent exact, but keywords like Calabar, bride and gowns would go a long way in helping you stand out. It is that simple. In a world of millions of businesses online, Search Engine Optimization is a process that helps in the improvement of the site, in order to increase the visibility of the site when people search for services and products related to your business through search engines.
