If you take the necessary steps to curb your social media addiction, you can develop more healthy habits, overcome the addiction, and live a more balanced life. Mute Notifications We can all relate to the instant urge to leave an important task once we hear a message notification on our phones. Sometimes, muting notifications is all it takes to enable you to concentrate on your daily tasks and prevent distractions. When you turn off your notifications, you have something to anticipate because when you return to check your social media, you may have a build-up of messages which will make the experience more exciting and worthwhile. Set A Daily Time Limit  Any addiction of any kind requires some time and effort to overcome. This is why you should set realistic goals at the beginning stage. Don’t plan to never open social media again or deactivate your account. Instead, set a daily duration in which you would dedicate to social media. Depending on your goals, you can continue to reduce this duration until you get to the point where it feels like social media has no more control over your life anymore.

Find A New Hobby A powerful way to get over an addiction is to replace that addiction with a new hobby. As you cut down on your social media usage, you may have more spare time on your hands. If so, use this time to learn a new skill or work on something you’ve been putting off for a long time. You may be surprised how much time you had been wasting when you were spending countless hours on social media. Moreover, a new hobby can keep you occupied when you feel the temptation to check social media. Make Time For Physical Connection Sometimes, social media addiction may be due to feelings of isolation brought about by a lack of social interaction. You can replace your craving for social media with outings with friends and loved ones.
