After deliberating on effecting a £3,000 visa bond for Nigerians traveling to the United Kingdom this November, the UK Government has announced the cancellation of the policy. News emerged months back that the UK will demand £3,000 visa bond from high-risk individuals in certain countries, including Nigeria, when visiting. A Home Office spokeswoman told AFP: “The government has been considering whether we pilot a bond scheme that would deter people from overstaying the visa. We have decided not to proceed.” Countries involved include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Ghana. If the policy was effected, certain visitors from those countries would forfeit the bond, if they overstayed in the UK.
