Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love and nothing else. Though the idea of giving gifts to a loved one mostly accompanied with good intentions, it is important to understand what constitutes inappropriate gifting. You don’t want to ruin a special day such as Valentine’s Day or any other for your loved one. For you to have an idea of what you should not give to that special someone on Val’s Day, here are our top five worst gifts for Valentine.1. Domestic gadgets: Why would you even think of this on a special day as Val’s? Giving your partner anything that suggests their place is in the kitchen is a sure way to discover that your place is sleeping on the couch. Avoid getting him workman tools on this day too. Such gifts might just keep him grumpy all day. Even though domestic gadgets and appliances are sometimes chosen as wedding gifts, they are not appropriate as Valentine gifts.
2. Exercise equipment: Today is not the day to use your gift to unearth controversial matters such as weight problems between you two. Even though he/she has long wanted to get a tummy trimmer or a crunch bench, it is better you give either of those at other times other than Valentine’s Day. You can choose any other day to get them exercise equipment and they might not think so evil of you. Valentine is for making loving memories not causing dingy ones.
3. Pet animals: Did he/she tell you about wanting to own one someday? If yes, you just scored yourself some points. However, if they did not give you a hint on wanting a pet someday and you showed up on their doorstep with a cuddly chihuahua or poodle on Val’s day with one… erm, we really don’t know what to tell you. We are sure of a quizzical look your way and some muddled up words that sound like, “You must be joking, right?” Long-term pet ownership is a major decision that you cannot make for anyone. Unless you have seriously talked about this as a couple, you should not be cutting breathing holes in a cardboard box anytime soon.
4. Valentine Cards: Valentine cards are the way to go but please let it be an addition to the real Valentine gift. It is better you give a warm hug than a mere Valentine card alone. A principal way of showing love is through giving and your Valentine card is the least card available for you to play. Give something thoughtful and let that heartfelt card be a supplement to your package of love.
5. Cheap Gifts: We have a sign for this one: “AVOID”. If you cannot spend an appreciable sum on a gift for the one you love, then it is best you do something you can afford but really heartfelt like making a love scrap book, picnic on the beach or a simple outing for dinner or a movie. If you decide to go the way of gifts, then let it be of good quality and let them be well thought out gifts.
There are more ideas on what you should not give as gifts on Val’s Day; these five are meant to give you an idea of things you should avoid. You can give these gifts any other day and they might make thoughtful gifts for that special someone but please don’t get these gifts for the one you love on this day.
