One would think that Whatsapp being the most popular messaging app in the world would cause them to relax, but that’s not the case, the brains behind Whatsapp continue to release new features on the app that keep them at the top. Here are a few recent Whatsapp updates this year that has been significant:     1. In-App Video Playback Whatsapp now supports In-app playback. This feature allows users to play videos without leaving the app, that is, the video can be viewed in a picture-in-picture mode or full-screen mode. You can send messages while in the same chat or hide the video but the video playback stops when you change the chat.     2. Support All File-type Transfer The app now supports the capacity to send all types of files on Android, iPhone and Windows Phone. The new feature allows sending a wide variety of file formats; MP3, WMA and APK files from your device to another. The file sharing limit for iOS is 128MB while Android is 100MB.     3. Video streaming and Photo bundling features Another feature introduced to the app in 2017 is video streaming and photo bundling features. The photo bundling feature enables users to send photos and videos to contacts as an album. Users can now send a bunch of videos to their Whatsapp contacts who will receive them bundled as an album. This feature is available for iPhone users and in beta for Android users.     4. Two-Step Verification This feature was rolled out to enhance security on the application. Users that have enabled this feature will have to provide a six-digit passcode when registering their phone number with Whatsapp again.     5. Re-added Text Status Feature When the new Status feature was introduced on the app, support for old Text Status feature was ended. This move by Whatsapp received disapproval among users because this meant that you could no longer set your status as ‘away’ or ‘busy’. Whatsapp had to relaunch this feature because of the backlash. The feature is now available on Android and iOS smartphones.
