Be intentional about taking your baths and showers. Be sure to:
  • Use warm water instead of very hot water.
  • Wash your face with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser.
  • Apply a considerable amount of cleanser to remove dirt and oil.
  • Gently dry your skin with a clean towel.
  • Use a moisturiser immediately after drying your skin.

Apply a moisturiser after bathing: There are good ointments, creams, and lotions that work well in trapping existing moisture in your skin. Apply a good moisturiser after taking your bath and after washing your face or hands. Use ointments or cream that have jojoba oil, glycerin, lactic acid, lanolin, mineral oil, and shea butter.

Invest in fragrance-free skincare products: Be sure to avoid certain skincare products that may be too harsh for your dry skin. Use recommended soaps and body creams that do not contain chemicals that can irritate your sensitive skin.

Buy and wear gloves: Your hands are prone to getting too dry after certain activities. Put on gloves whenever you do tasks that require you to get your hands wet.

Use non-irritating laundry detergents for washing. Most laundry detergents can irritate your skin. To avoid this use laundry detergent labelled “hypoallergenic.”

If after following these tips you are yet to feel better, you should consult a dermatologist for medical checkups. Very dry skin could be one of the symptoms of a health condition that needs urgent treatment. A certified dermatologist will help you to examine your skin and prescribe ointments or lotions suitable for your skin.
