Just a year ago, it could be argued that rap music was dead in Nigeria. However, this notion has been brought to an end with the rise of some music acts who gained prominence in 2019. Perhaps we can tag them “revivalist” for the way they’ve sharpened rap music with their sleek flows and bars.

Here are some Nigerian rappers who prove rap music in Nigeria is not dead.

A-Q had his big break in 2018 when he released his collabo album, Crown featuring Loose Kaynon. This album had him serving amazing performances that couldn’t help but turn heads. Although we haven’t seen much of A-Q in 2019, his verse alongside rappers like M.I, Loose Kaynon, and Blaqbonez on the song Martell Cypher gained so much attention that it became a trending Twitter topic for days. He is expected to releases his album God’s Engineering later this year.

Kapaichumarimarichopaco! No one knows the meaning of that word but it gets the party moving. He did not only invent this term but also unleashed the Zanku dance which has become a major element of Nigeria pop culture. Zlatan is one of the rappers who have promoted the street vibe teaming up with A-list musicians like Burnaboy and Davido to produce party bangers. His impressive bars on “Killing Dem” and “Am I a Yahoo Boy” prove he is one unique breed of a rapper.
