The much awaited 12th edition of the Headies, Nigeria’s longest running and biggest music awards ceremony, held over the weekend at Eko Hotels and Suites. It was by far the best organized edition in recent times as everything, from adherence to time to transitions and performances, was superb. This coming after a one-year hiatus speaks volumes.

Stellar performances

There were outstanding performances by various artistes from the old and the new school, they included stellar performances by Falz, Mr Real, Mad Melon & Mountain Black, and Simi. Simi and Davido were the biggest winners of the evening as they carted home the most plaques; 3 each.

Wins

Simi won in the Best RnB Single category for the song “Smile for Me”, Best Recording of the Year category for “Joromi”, and won the Album of the Year for her album – “Simisola”. Davido’s song “IF” won the Best Pop Single and Song of the Year categories. He was also named the Artiste of the Year. The singer dedicated his award to his “Assurance”, his girlfriend with whom he has been in the news all week. Wizkid and M.I got two awards each, Awards were also presented to the Lagos state government Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), telecom giants Globacom and MTN, Nigerian Breweries Plc., Hennessy and Pepsi for their support in the growth of the Nigerian music industry.
