Despite the use of force to crush the #EndSARS protests in October, Nigerian youths have shown resilience in their bid to end police brutality in Nigeria after returning to the streets on Monday, December 7th, 2020. While youths in Lagos kick-started the first wave of the protests, their counterparts in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, decided to lead the line this time to demand an end to bad governance which has left the country in a deplorable state.

Also, youths in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State followed in the footsteps of their counterparts in Abuja as they blocked the entrance to the State’s House of Assembly, demanding an audience from the lawmakers despite warnings from security operatives to back off from another protest. In Lagos State, security operatives have been stationed at the Lekki toll gate to ensure there is not a repeat of the #EndSARS protest in the state which is considered the commercial hub of Africa.

However, the campaign has been strong online with the hashtag #EndSARS and #EndSARSNow topping trends on Twitter. As of the time of this report, the hashtag already had over 80k tweets in what might see Nigeria brace up for a historic change in the country’s political system. It will be recalled that the beginning of the end of the first wave of the protests was the event of October 20th, 2020, which saw Nigerian soldiers and the police fire live bullets at peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate.
