ITTF Player of the Year, Quadri Aruna has confirmed his superiority at the ongoing International Table Tennis Federation Africa Senior championships in Cairo, Egypt.
The Nigerian remains the only unbeaten player at the tourney, winning five out of five, as he triumphed over the two best players in Africa – Egypt’s Sayed Lashin and Omar Assar.
He beat them 3-1 each to record two wins for Nigeria in the men’s team event final; however, the North Africans still took the gold medal with a 3-2 victory after defeating his teammates.
Hosts Egypt lead the African table tennis medal table with two golds after also defeating Nigeria 3-2 in the women’s event final.
The winners of third medal will be decided on Tuesday when the final of the mixed doubles between Egypt and Congo Brazzaville is concluded. Four more titles are still up for grabs in the tournament before it concludes on January 29.
Over 17 countries are taking part in the competition which serves as qualification for the World Championships in China in April.
