Program Overview

The PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme aims to provide candidates access to diverse knowledge and world-class facilities at prestigious global institutions. It is strategically designed to develop indigenous talent for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry, with recent restructuring to emphasise capacity development within Nigeria.

2025/26 Program Updates

The restructured scholarship offerings include:
  • Fully funded MSc scholarships in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia
  • Fully funded PhD scholarships in Germany, France, and Malaysia
  • PhD scholarships for UK studies are now offered exclusively as Split-Site Programs at the PTDF College of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) in collaboration with three UK partner universities: Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth

Eligibility Requirements

MSc Applicants Must:

  • Hold a minimum of a Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
  • Have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
  • Be computer literate
  • Possess 5 O-level credits including English Language and Mathematics
  • Submit a statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) explaining reasons for proposed study, industry relevance, and expected impact on national development
  • Have a verified National Identity Number (NIN) before applying (NIMC verification charges apply)

PhD Applicants Must:

  • Have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
  • Be computer literate
  • Possess 5 O-level credits, including English Language and Mathematics
  • Hold a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) first degree and a good post-graduate degree
  • Submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (maximum five pages)
  • Lecturers must provide a letter from their Vice-Chancellors confirming they aren’t receiving other scholarships
  • Have a verified National Identity Number (NIN) before applying (NIMC verification charges apply)

  • WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results with PINs

  • Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD applicants only)
