This year is about to end and I won’t let this season pass without giving you some insightful tips on how you can make the remaining months in this year better as regards your job hunting or career enhancement drive.
Let’s take a look into how you might have been searching for jobs in the past that has never work in any way to land you the job you want.
Here is the picture.
You want a job and you keep subscribing to every job search site you can find and when any email or SMS comes in, you pick the ones you want and like and reply with a generic resume and application, most times through the job search application interface. Then all you can do is wait and see if you will be lucky, and the circle goes on and on like that.
But wait a second…
That isn’t working and might never work 99% of the time. But this is a new year and it won’t hurt at all if you discard that old way of looking for a job which doesn’t work because you are competing with thousands of other job seekers and the system is not skewed in your favour, leaving you with the “luck” factor to snatch a job out of the proverbial lion’s den of no job.
Here is my first tip in my series of how you can have a better 2015 in terms of your career.
- Stop Playing The Lucky Game – It Rarely Ever Works:
Stupidity they say, is doing the same the thing repeatedly and expecting different results.
Rather than waiting for your lucky day, why not go out there and make your career luck by yourself?
I’m a guy who doesn’t believe on the principle of good things comes to those who wait; rather than waste precious time waiting, I will go out there and go find and bring that good thing back home. I think it saves time and it’s even more fun than waiting when many times, I’ve got more than the good thing I was even looking for in the first place.
All through my career life, I’ve never waited for anything. When I graduated with a degree in Computer Science and grew bored with writing codes, I decided I wanted a job in a real estate firm to fulfill passion for anything real estate. Despite not having any prior qualification or experience in that field before, which to many would have been the best of excuse not to have what they want, I decided to make my own luck and instead of waiting for a job to come to me, I reached out for the job I wanted and I got it in just two weeks. After about 8 months of getting the job, I was bored and I quit to be on my own after which I fell in love with Social Media and Content Marketing and I once again hit the Digital Media Screen where I once landed a job in a top advertising firm. However, the romance didn’t last more than few days after which I jumped into another popular FM Station in the country.
All through this jumping and “flirting” with jobs in different fields, one thing is common and that is…
I’ve never waited for the job to come to me, rather, I’ve gone out there, found what I could do for these firms and where I could add value to them to either ease their pain or solve their problem, and pitched myself as the guy they need to hire and hire fast. All of these jobs never existed before; I can say I created them and you can do the same as well.

After answering that question, which is very important, you need to do the following:
– Know What You Can Do And What You Can Offer In Exchange For Employers Offering You A Job In No Time:
This is really the number one thing you need to do. When I look back at all the job hunting success I’ve had in the past which I can create again anytime I want (imagine how life would be if you’ve found one way to win and win many times on and on), one thing is also common which is the fact that I’ve learnt to first look inward and find what I can offer to employers in exchange for their paycheck and in all those times, I’ve one way or the other found one thing at least to offer; lots of problems I identified which I could solve for employers who I would like to work for.
In short, know what your Unique Selling Point is and that which you can use to use to entice employers to listen to you and want to hire you as soon as possible.
