Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh surprisingly resigned from his job as Nigeria’s head coach in the early hours of Friday morning. Oliseh took to his official account, @SundayOOliseh on social media platform Twitter to announce his resignation at about 2.22am. “I feel fortunate, blessed and eternally grateful for having had the honour to play, captain & coach this great nation of ours, Nigeria.” He said Oliseh, who has had a strained relationship with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) in his 7-month stint as coach, said he was resigning due to a violation of the contract he signed with the NFF. “Due to contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, benefits to my players, Asst. coaches & myself, I resign as Super Eagles Chief Coach. – Sunday Oliseh, Super Eagles Chief Coach,” He tweeted. Oliseh’s resignation comes barely a month to Nigeria’s crucial AFCON qualifying encounter with the Pharaohs of Egypt on March 25 in Kaduna. The return leg holds five days later in Cairo. Oliseh was supposed to meet with the NFF’s Technical committee in Abuja on Thursday morning but he opted out of the meeting on the ground that he was flying to England to meet up with Nigerian players playing in the English Premier League this weekend. However, Oliseh, who participated in the Social Media Week in Lagos, spoke to renowned Football Writer/Analyst Colin Udoh via a video interview. During the interview, he revealed he hadn’t been able to get the video and match analysis of the Pharaohs despite asking the technical committee for them since July. He also admitted that he had to use his influence to get hold of the videos from a contact in Egypt. The NFF leadership led by Amaju Pinnick is in Zurich, Switzerland to participate in the FIFA Presidential Elections on Friday.
