Great news! Nigerian Engineering students at the private Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State have created an innovative robot for agricultural farming purposes as their final year research project.
Named the Robodozer, the students designed the robot based on the pattern of a bulldozer, enabling it to avoid obstacles.
“The robodozer is a prototype of a bulldozer, which can be used on a farm land. If we have enough resources at our disposal, we can create a bigger robot that can be operated automatically. The prototype we built cost us N100,000 and we contributed N25,000 each to order for the parts online,”says Oluwaseun Fagbule, the project’s group head, in an interview with the Nation. Other students in the group include Babatunde Akingbade, Omololu Babasanya and Fikayo Sobowale.
“It was fun creating the robot; although it was not too easy for us. Our colleagues thought it was something we could not do but our supervisor was supportive. We built it by the grace of God and we take the credit because it is the first time such project will be done on the campus,” says Omololu.
It’s great to see our young people doing big things in and for Nigeria! Amazingly, they showed the naysayers that it could be done, defying all odds.
