Nigerian Footballer Inks His Name in Guinness Book of World Records

  Cambodia-based Nigerian footballer, Harrison Chinedu, made history on Sunday in Lagos when he broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the farthest distance travelled with the ball balanced on his head. Chinedu walked a distance of 48.04 kilometers in 6 hours, 15 minutes to erase the previous record set by Indian soldier, Naib Subedar Azad Singh, who travelled a distance of 45.64 km back in 2014. The event was flagged off by Mr. Demola Ali, a representative of Minister of Youths and Sports. President of Nigeria Referees Association, Tade Azeez, former FIFA-badged referee and senior lecturer at the National Institute for Sports, Dr. Alex Mana, and ex- Olympian, Henry Amike were also in attendance. The event, which was organised by Rafiu Oladipo Sports Foundation, saw Chinedu walk from the Redeemed Camp to the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. At the National Stadium, he walked round the main bowl eleven times to break the record before walking further eleven times to set a new record. The President of the Foundation, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, who is also the President of Nigeria Football Supporters Club, extolled Chinedu describing him as a Nigerian sports ambassador and pledged his foundation’s support for the athlete to “Tafisa 2016” Championship. “We are also committed to helping any talented Nigerian youth put the country’s name on the world map,” Ladipo remarked.
