In a bid to give back to the society, former Super Eagles of Nigeria captain Mikel Obi has launched the Back2Base initiative. The program aims to encourage young Nigerian athletes to pursue careers in football, basketball, and tennis.

The former Chelsea FC of England star is currently in Lagos State where the program is taking place from June 9 to 11 at the University of Lagos Sports Centre.

The Back2Base initiative is Mikel’s way of giving back and creating a career path for young and talented Nigerian athletes looking to pursue a career in Football, Basketball and Tennis. This three-day event will commence on the 9th – 11th of June 2022 at the Unilag sports centre, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos by 10 am daily,’’ a social media statement from Mikel’s management team confirmed.

Mikel will also be giving out a monetary sum of 6 million Naira to talents identified.

A monetary price of N6 Million naira will be awarded to the most promising athletes across the three sports alongside several other surprises. These winners will also be hosted to an exclusive dinner/mentorship session with Mikel on Sunday 12th of June by 6 pm at The Radisson Blu Hotel Victoria Island Lagos,’’

the statement from Mikel’s team also confirmed.
The three-day event will also afford young kids a rare privilege to see and have photo opportunities with Mikel’s Champions League medals.’’

The former Chelsea man is the most decorated Nigerian footballer in history after winning titles such as the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, FA Cup, Carling Cup, Europa League, the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title with the Super Eagles, and more.
