Abdul Ramon Babatunde Aregbe is the CEO of Animaze. He is a creative individual who believes in chasing his dreams. He runs his company Animaze, a goal oriented multimedia firm designed to meet clients’ requirement for designing, visualizing, 3D modeling, digital content creation and other allied animation services in areas of corporate advertisement, architectural visualization & other IT solutions. Connect Nigeria had a chat with the founder, Abdul Ramon Babatunde Aregbe who told us how he founded the multimedia firm in 2009 and it won its first contract in the same year. Enjoy.
CN: Tell us about yourself. ARBA: I’m Abdul Ramon Babatunde Aregbe. I was born and bred in Lagos State. I have a diploma in Digital Film Animation which is also my highest educational level. Growing up was interesting, I will say I spent my childhood time creatively because I clearly remembered how I was always being punished for turning some of my school books into sketchbooks. It was a good thing because as I grew up it defined my path. My Mum remained supportive and very encouraging till her demise. Over time, I have become someone with an unwavering resolve, determined to do well in my job, have a successful career, as well as build my company structure and strengthen the processes. In all, I can say it has been an interesting ride.
CN: What’s your company about? What services do you focus on? ARBA: Our goal is to provide a full range of multimedia services to Nigeria and beyond. To ensure sustainability in our environment, promote our services and increase awareness of our businesses & services. The services we provide include but are not limited to: • Flash presentation • Visual marketing solutions • Graphics design, architectural creation & visualization • 2D/3D modeling and animation • Video editing and effects • Multimedia training & other IT/advertising solutions.
CN: What is the inspiration behind Animaze? How did it all start? ARBA: Animaze is my childhood dream. The name came to me in a dream, I googled it right away and to my surprise, it existed somewhere in Asia. I decided that cannot stop me, so I went ahead and started my vision. ANIMAZE, for me is a combination of Animation and Amaze. When I did a job, people gave me compliments and they mostly told me, “You’re Amazing”. That was always a big boost to my ego, and that always fired me up to want to create more. My propelling orientation is, “As long as it is a computer related problem, I can get a solution” and this has made it possible for me to work across different industries like Architecture, Fashion, Visual Merchandise, CG training, Advertising, Photography, Videography, Social Media Marketing etc.
CN: When did it all start? ARBA: Animaze is a result of my years of sitting for JAMB and Post JAMB. I had a lot of time to sit at home all these periods; I utilized those periods to discover the creativity in me and harness and sharpen my gift. As a company, Animaze started in 2009, and I also got my first contract that same year.
CN: With so many Digital Strategists out there, what do you think sets you apart? ARBA: If you do excellent work you will stand out. Having a lot of people in the same business has never been my fear. I was never bothered; instead I made it one of my strengths. What I can say is, competition should make us stronger and better, and over the years, my excellent and detailed results have set me apart, my finished products have spoken for me.
CN: What are the peculiar challenges you experience as a Digital Strategist? ARBA: There are not too many challenges right now. But I will say client management is my major challenge presently’.
CN: What is your driving force? What keeps you going? ARBA: Being given the chance to do more and getting compensated for it keeps me going. That’s my driving force.
CN: Do you have any mantra? ARBA: Yes, ‘Keep Moving Forward’ I got it from one of my favourite Disney CG cartoon, “Meet the Robinsons”. Nobody ever fails by trying again, and I am passionate about developing me, so I keep learning new stuff every day and keeping myself up-to-date.
CN: Words of advice for upcoming entrepreneurs? ARBA: Use your head, follow your heart, and never give up trying.
