Mrs Roli Bode George, the wife of Chief Bode George, a PDP chieftain in Lagos, has been appointed the first woman acting Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Mitchel Ofoyeju, the agency’s spokesperson, announced this in a statement in Lagos yesterday, and disclosed that the former chairman, Ahmadu Giade, has officially handed over the affairs of the NDLEA and inspected a guard of honour after which he presented a new flag to the acting DG.
The statement read:
“This is the first time in the Agency’s history that an outgoing chairman will successfully serve for 10 years without blemish.
My greatest legacy is my zero tolerance for corruption.
If we must continue to dislodge drug barons and eradicate drugs from our society we must remain forthright and committed to drug control programmes.
I am also leaving behind a legacy of proactive and intelligence-led organisation.
The Agency, under my watch has a representative at INTERPOL headquarters and has successfully raised the international profile of the country through unprecedented seizures of drugs and arrest of drug barons. The removal of Nigeria from the majors list opened doors to a robust cooperation and partnership with stakeholders. NDLEA has witnessed unprecedented training programmes for officers sponsored by U.S. Government, Germany, Spain, France and the European Union.”
He urged the new boss to take officers welfare as a priority. The incoming chairperson, Roli Bode-George, however said, “NDLEA will continue to be proactive and operate as an intelligence-led agency. The Agency will apply modern techniques and diligently implement the National Drug Control Master Plan in collaboration with stakeholders.”
Mrs. Bode-George was first appointed a member of National Population Commission (NPC), in November 2011, to represent Lagos State.
She had barely spent two and a half years there, when she was appointed the Director-General of Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Thursday, June 19, 2014 by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Roli is the Chairperson of her own NGO, Women in Politics (WIN), which she has used in promoting and encouraging the participation of women in political affairs.
