Imoh Books might be as close to being a totally digital business as one can get.
As an online bookshop, it has its display shelf on Instagram (and markets its merchandise there too), takes and delivers orders via Whatsapp, and receives payments through electronic money transfers. Its stock in trade are e-books, made, transported and consumed on digital devices. If there ever was a proper representation of the future of business, this would be it.
Creator and superintendent
It’s probably not surprising that the founder of this bookshop is a 24 year old social media savvy man with an eye for books. Imoh Imaikop, creator and superintendent of Imoh Books, is a student at the University of Calabar, where she’s studying Accountancy. She says she began selling e-books because she figured out she could give book lovers access to the very latest literary works from the best authors on the planet, in the most convenient way possible.

An interesting array of books are available for purchase at Imoh’s digital store, if what’s on its Instagram showcase is anything to go by. Titles authored by a variety of well known figures – from Richard Branson and Robert Kiyosaki, to Francine Rivers and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – are displayed. Imoh herself says that her collection includes inspirational, business, religious, health and fitness, biography, lifestyle and personal growth e-books, as well as e-novels.
“Books…are an eye opener to life and nature. That’s why I choose to sell books. I don’t want society to remain in the dark. I want people to know what goes on around them.”
— Imoh Imaikop
Imoh admits that her early days as a business running on the wheels of social media were difficult:
“It was quite stressful at the beginning, but I’m enjoying it now. In order to reach new clients, I have to market my products online and most of my customers appreciate the service I’m rendering to them.”
E-books at Imoh Books are available in formats compatible with iPad, Windows, Android, and Blackberry phones.
