  In Nigeria, We have Network Service Providers like MTN, AIRTEL, GLO, and 9MOBILE, these providers enable us to get Sim cards which we use for easier communication in and across national boundaries. These network Providers also provide us with access to the internet; you subscribe for Mobile data which in turn enables you to surf the internet.

However, sometimes you would purchase a data subscription and Poof! It’s all gone and then you wonder, “Where did it all go to?”And then you think, “Oh! It’s all the websites I have opened recently”. You assume the Blogs and websites are making a fortune from your mobile data.

Truth

Most bloggers/ webmasters might find this very funny; I mean How Possible is this? Most people do believe Website Owners earn from their Mobile Data [megabyte]. The simple truth is that they don’t. In this article, I would explain how website owners and Bloggers make earnings from their website. Before becoming a blogger, I  had this same mentality too. I always thought “These websites are just eating up my Data and making money”, even when I downloaded movies from sites like netnaija.com or waploaded.com. Well, the process is totally different than expected. I started my first site on Google’s free hosting platform “Blogger”. After joining lots of Blogging groups and much research, I discovered that a website owner can make money from entirely different sources.

How Websites Owners And Bloggers Make Money

The fact that they don’t earn from your Mobile data doesn’t mean that they don’t earn from you at all. They make a fortune from you, even up to $5,000 monthly. Website owners earn majorly from advertisements, either paid custom ads or through advertising agencies, but in some rare cases, they lock their contents so only subscribed users can access it. You might have opened lots of sites on the web and find some prompt/pop up adverts, in form of banners. These are placed there by the blogger. I have mentioned that there are some advertising agencies through which web owners can monetize their sites. These agencies may be useful to you if you are interested in Blogging or running a website of any kind.
  • Google Adsense
Google Adsense is a program run by Google through which website publishers in the Google Network of content sites serve text, images, video or interactive media advertisements that are targeted to the site content and audience. These advertisements are administered, sorted, and maintained by Google.

Google Adsense is by far the most popular way to monetize a website, a site owner would be fortunate to have an Adsense for their website. It follows a strict approval process and bloggers try so hard to get Adsense on their site, I am a testimony. Google pays about $12,000,000 monthly to site owners just to publish on their sites.
  • Media.nets
Media.net is a contextual advertising network. On August 21, 2016, Miteno Communication Technology, a Chinese consortium acquired Media.net for 900 million USD. The deal is said to be the third-largest ad tech acquisition ever. By revenue, Media.net is the second-largest contextual advertising network in the world. It is also one of the popular ads agencies in the World.
  • Propeller Ads
This is also an advert agency just like Google Adsense and Media.net. This list is not limited to the aforementioned agencies; there are other agencies available…simply search on Google. There are other advertising means which a blogger or website owner can monetize his site. These are;
  • Through influence
Websites with massive Traffic/users can be monetized through influencing their users to buy a certain product or patronize a brand. A vivid example is Linda Ikeji’s Blog. It is reported that Linda Ikeji gets about 50,000 site visitors in a day. With such traffic, Brands would want to advertise on her blog, to enable them to reach more prospective buyer/customers. These days people tend to believe what influencers recommend, For an example seeing Wizkid with a Tenco 12 Air phone in a banner or video advert, would definitely make people want to buy the phone, in turn increasing sales for the Tecno Brand. Imagine if popular artiste and music icon Davido says he uses the CloseUp Tooth Paste, Some People would actually switch brand. So never underestimate the power of an influencer. This simply illustrates that with lots of users on a particular website, people would want to advertise on your site.
  • Through Affiliate Marketing
Have you ever watched a Youtube Video in which at the end of the video, you hear something like “You can buy the same type of headphones [Just An illustration] I used on the video at a lower price through the link I dropped in the description box” or “ to buy this at a cheaper rate input this Coupon Code”? These are forms of affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing in simpler terms is advertising for a product or services, and getting a commission. It’s totally different from Adsense or adverts from ads agencies because you get the advert from the company directly. In Affiliate marketing, you get your own custom links, coupon codes and ads banners. Most businesses have an affiliate marketing system which is very strategic for sales increase. Examples of businesses which have affiliate programs are Amazon, Jumia, Konga, Namecheap, Bluehost and much more. Note that you don’t have to own a website to be on any affiliate program. In Conclusion, you should note that your Cellular data is consumed in exchange for the time you spent on the internet, and is not converted to any form of income to the website owner.  The Balances MB Cellular News Featured Image Source: Vskills
