Most times, an entrepreneur is the founder of the business, the admin officer, the social media manager, the HRM and even the cleaner. Their minds are occupied with how to research the market and make sales at the same time, irrespective of the failure rate of startups these days. This makes them distracted by several things. Oftentimes, it is difficult to really concentrate and get some work done. In this case, distraction is inevitable, and there is a need to stay focused on priorities.

I understand that many of us have this challenge. However, I will be sharing in this article, some tips I feel will help you stay focused as an entrepreneur.
  • Prioritize productivity over activity

I can’t mention this enough. There are many times we think we are getting things done, but unfortunately, we are only dancing around the same circle. As an entrepreneur, you must understand that there are certain activities you shouldn’t bother yourself with; some social media trends you shouldn’t follow and some sites you shouldn’t visit.  Yes, there is a craze for skilling up, but there are some courses you really don’t need. All these things are taking up time that should be invested in making money and growing your business. Look within and identify those activities in and around your business that literally waste your time. Trash them.
  • Organize tasks

This is more than just creating a to-do list and trying to follow it. While listing out the tasks you need to perform for the day, scrutinize them. Determine those that are urgent, important, not urgent and not important. It will help you know where you channel your energy.

There are certain periods in a day when you feel more active. This varies. It could be in the morning or even at midnight. Whatever it is. Perform your tasks according to their priority, and attend to the most prioritized during those charged up times of yours. Trust me, when you achieve these very important ones, you will be less likely to neglect the less important ones, even when you are losing strength.
  • Identify your revenue source

One vital question you should always ask is; what is the revenue source? You are in business to make money, right? Will it be wise to be carried away with frivolities when your revenue is at stake? Certainly not. Depending on the kind of business you are running, you should identify what is making you money and what is not.

  • Work more than play

Some business people make the mistake of eating their seeds; profits or returns that should be re-invested in growing their businesses. I know you’ve toiled for a while to see your business grow, and now you just want to relax. Although that is good, you will need to keep putting in the hard work. Moreover, you wouldn’t want to consume all you’ve profited from the business at once.  Take breaks, but know when to get back to work. Sometimes, this can be a great distraction from business. You must not have a six-month vacation in the Maldives. It can be a brief one in one of the beautiful tourist centres in Nigeria. Chill, but get back to the strategy table as quickly as you can. This guarantees long-term success.  Be sure to do something every single day that will impact your business positively. Cut out laziness and be true to your craft. See you at the top!
