Sometimes, you feel left behind or slow-paced with pressure coming from different angles to catch up with your well-achieved contemporaries. Well, the truth is, you are not alone in this feeling. It is not wrong to feel this way. The world is a highly competitive globe and it’s a natural inclination to feel the weight of under-achievement. It only gets wrong when you let it rule your thinking. This might seem really tough, especially with the internet where you’ve got to face these revelations every day with pictures and visuals on social media. Here are some of the ways you can fight this pressure.
  • Appreciate Your Little Wins

The best way to prevent this pressure is to look around you and count your blessings. Look at how far you’ve gone and appreciate the little wins you’ve had. You should have it in mind that not so many other people have made it to your level. These people aspire to be in your shoes, be glad you have gotten the opportunity to be you, then work towards becoming a better you.
  • Identify And Rectify Your Drawbacks

Identify the reasons why you have not made it as far as the people you notice. Look at your flaws and missing requirements and work on them. You can take up courses or self-learn to add missing skills. An internship may also suffice if required in the area of profession or vocation. In the end, you will be glad you made this choice.

  • Be Happy For Your Successful Mates

To prevent the feeling of failure around your peers, learn to condition your mind to think of the fulfilment in watching your friends make great strides. When you are genuinely happy for them, you push down the distraction from the pressure easily, you also learn to be much focused in your pursuits.
  • Space Out From Family Pressure

It is best to break off family. Maybe bunk with a friend for a few weeks and months. Family pressure is a common issue in the Nigerian setting because of the traditional disregard for an individual’s mental state. Your family home can be a toxic environment for development, hence, take leave to survive the throes of being compared to your much successful friends or becoming the scorned under-achiever in the family.
  • Learn From Successful Friends

Take time to engage your successful friends and learn from them. They might not be ready to let you in on the secrets behind their achievements, but you can pick a thing or two from their attitude to work and choice of qualifications. Eventually, the good ones will be very encouraged to let you under their wings.
  • Work Hard

Feel challenged to intensify your efforts in your career and vocation. Do not feel envious. To get to the peak of success, you need to move out of your comfort zone. Battle procrastination, laziness, and embrace hard work. You might need to study for an exam, attend a seminar or wake up at odd hours to get better at your tasks. In no time, you will catch up with your friends or even get better. Always note that it is never too late to be successful. Nothing in this world is an impossibility. If you have the will, it is just a matter of time and effort. Dwelling too much on the achievement of others will only serve as a distraction, and you can’t afford that. Your contemporaries’ achievement should serve as a motivation that challenges you to greatness. Don’t lose focus. Featured Image Source: Shutterstock
