Internationally celebrated afro-pop singer, Innocent “Tuface” Idibia, has been very vocal lately on topics such as voters’ education, good governance and the herdsmen crisis. This time he has something to say to youths who celebrate criminal-minded politicians.

Speaking Out

The popular singer, who rose from the boy group “Plantashun Boys” to becoming one of Africa’s most celebrated artistes,, admonished that Nigerian youth desist from honouring politicians who have fed fat off looted public funds. He added that politicians who make it into public office had better have something to show their constituents for trusting them with their votes. Showtime reported:
“My advice to the youth is that we should begin to celebrate what is right. We should stop celebrating criminals; we should stop hyping people that have done nothing to benefit us. Imagine, someone wakes one morning and suddenly becomes a Senator with a lot of money; people will begin to celebrate him/her even when he has done nothing for his people. When you campaign for votes and you finally win, you’ve to have something to show for those votes. So, we need to begin to celebrate people who are genuine and not criminals.” — Tuface
On the issue of unsuspecting Nigerians being used to fulfil politicians’ selfish interests, Tuface had this to say:
“I’m hoping that Nigerians will understand that politicians should not use them again; I’m hoping that they would understand that these people will tell their usual stories, but we also should tell our own story this time around.” — Tuface
He further advised the government to carry the citizenry along in its plans and policies, and  to keep them informed as events unfold, rather than leave them confused by conflicting reports they get from news sources, whether authentic or fake. Other singers who have recently lent their voices to political awareness in Nigerian include EME boss, Banky W, and the Jagbajantis, singer Sound Sultan, who released Naija Jungle in June 2018, which metaphorically describes the current Nigerian situation.
