The legend of Saint Valentine being a priest who secretly married lovers to defy the will of Emperor Claudius II during his reign in 41-54 AD, gives the impression that Valentine’s Day is only for lovers. Not everyone has someone special in their lives. There are some who are in a long-distance relationship because of work or other reasons. Others are parents saddled with young kids that make it hard to steal away for a romantic getaway.

In all fairness, Valentine’s Day is actually just the day we celebrate love. It doesn’t have to just be romantic love with a partner, it can also be a day to show love to those we have in our lives. Romance is a feeling of excitement, mystery and remoteness from everyday life that is associated with love. There is no better reason to spread the joys of the season beyond your significant other than during this pandemic. So here are some romantic tour activities to try this Valentine:
  1. Walking Tour
Go on a walking tour in a nice floral or botanical garden, around the zoo, within an estate, along a lonely street with colourful plants dotting the landscape. Go with a friend or your kids. Use the opportunity to share how blessed you are to have them in your life. Make sure it is a leisurely walk to enjoy each other’s company. Let the hike or walk tour be the perfect chance to talk and bond.
  1. Sunset Cruise
Have you ever seen a golden sunset? How did it make you feel? Wouldn’t it be nice to share this experience with someone you hold dear? Or would you prefer to enjoy it alone? Add this experience with going on a boat cruise. Imagine going on a cruise dressed in all white or red with Dj jamming on Lagos water ways in a Yacht with wine and exotic meals. Even if you are not in a relationship, it is bound to be one experience that may fill you with a sense of remoteness from everyday life.
  1. Horseback Riding
Horses are majestic looking beasts. Even riding them along the highway during traffic causes people to stir. You can get a horseback ride on any beach in Nigeria or at the Zoo (if they allow it). Share the horse with at least one adult or two toddlers and go for a walk along the wet sands of the beach. It is the perfect opportunity for cuddling or physical contact. For those with physical touch as their love language, then this activity should be right up your alley.
  1. Picnic Or Fine Dining
Pull out a basket and picnic blanket and spread it out in your grassy backyard for a quiet picnic with those you love. No grass in your compound? Clear a spot in your sitting room, spread your blanket on the carpet or tiles and set your picnic down on it. You can have a bottle of wine with a box of chocolates and a home delivered meal from your favourite restaurant. If this idea isn’t appealing, then eat out at any restaurant in your vicinity like the Chinese or Asia restaurants in Victoria Island. Just make sure there are social distancing rules in place and you go with your face mask and sanitizer. So you can do any of these activities with your loved ones this Valentine to give them a sense of endearment. You don’t have to wait till Valentine’s Day to do any of these loving acts. Let what you do on Valentine’s Day be an attestation of the love they know you have for them. Now that is romantic. Featured Image Source: Dreamstime
