This year’s edition of the D-Prize Challenge is now open to applications from social entrepreneurs. It’s targeted at founders who are launching new organisations to solve problems related to poverty. These may be for-profit ventures, NGOS, or charities that can improve lives in lower-middle-income and lower-income areas.

The grant awarded through the D-Prize Challenge for Social Entrepreneurs is meant to support the launch of organisations that can alleviate the effects of poverty on underserved communities. The team at D-Prize hopes that the organisations they support will eventually become large-scale, so that they can expand and deepen their impact in poor districts and regions.

The challenges within the broader D-Prize program cater to concerns in the following domains:
  • Agriculture
  • Education
  • Energy
  • Health
  • Livelihoods
  • Public services
  • Water

Benefits

Applicants who emerge as top candidates at the end of the final round will receive up to $20,000 in grants to launch and scale their social impact organisations. They will also get support to develop their ideas into successful organisations that transform lives for the better.

Eligibility    

This program is open to persons who meet these criteria:
  • Their organisation must not be more than 18 months old, and will not have received more than $30,000 in external funding
  • Awardees will typically be first-time entrepreneurs, sometimes still in the pre-launch stage
  • Existing organisations can apply if they are distributing existing and proven poverty intervention solutions
