Formwork is a construction and architectural design company headquartered in Lagos. They design and construct residential and commercial buildings, and renovate existing structures. They have done this for clients in several industries, including major brands in the retail, financial services, and hospitality segments.
The projects that Formwork has taken on are spread across the country. They are situated in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Umuahia, Benin, Asaba, Aba, and Ota, to mention a few places. The geographical span of its successes suggests that it’s keen on achieving its vision: to be “the best builders and designers on the African continent.”
Formwork’s founders incorporated the company as a limited liability company in 1993. But it did not commence full operations until 1998. Since then, it has strengthened its position in the construction industry, becoming one of the most sought-after builders in the country.
Evidence of the progress that Formwork has achieved is the fact that it’s the first indigenous construction company to build a mall. Prior to this achievement, projects of this sort were the exclusive preserve of foreign contractors. In the years that have followed this success, it has gone on the build several key structures for commercial and private clients all over Nigeria.
The retail outlets that Formwork has constructed include the Abeokuta Mall, Abia Mall (in Umuahia), Asaba Mall, and Owerri Mall. It also built the HealthPlus store at the Palms Mall in Lekki, Lagos. The Owerri mall cost $44 million to finish, and was completed and opened in 2016.
Formwork has also built several hotels, hospitality centres, and commercial spaces. Some of them are the Protea Hotel in Benin; the Protea Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos; Landmark Partners; Briscoe Properties, Ikeja GRA, Lagos; Top Brass Hotel, Lekki, Lagos; and office developments in Lekki, Lagos.
The company has also constructed buildings for institutional clients, such as the Institute of Technology and Management, Ugep, Cross River State; the Prime Atlantic Training Facility; and the Lagos Preparatory School, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Besides these structures, Formwork has developed and delivered residential buildings in Crown Estate (IbejuLekki, Lagos), Banana Island (Ikoyi, Lagos), and Parkview Estate (Ikoyi, Lagos), Victoria Garden City (Lagos), Ikeja, and Lekki. It has built local branches for several commercial banks as well.
Formwork has become widely recognized for its safety culture, which it maintains through a governance structure that ensures compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements on all its work sites. The company operates out of its head office in Lekki, Lagos, and has a construction yard situated further north in Agege, Lagos.
