The tech ecosystem is a delicate one that involves a lot of growth, changes and personal development in order to remain relevant in the space. For many people, the plan for the new decade or new year was to amplify personal development in order to take the necessary leap for their career. So, when people started getting comfortable with the idea of mentors to assist in that growth, some of these mentors have also taken flight to progress in their career outside the hustle and bustle we have known them for.

This is the shocking news we received about two players in the tech ecosystem – Bankole Oluwafemi, the editor-in-chief of TechCabal and co-founder of Big Cabal Media; and Femi Longe, the Director of Innovation and co-founder of Co-Creation Hub (CcHub). Both announced it to their followers on the popular social media platform – Twitter.

For those who may not know, Big Cabal Media is the digital media company behind the tech news publication TechCabal and the content platform Zikoko.

In a Medium post by the CEO of Big Cabal Media, Tomiwa Aladekomo, he shed more light on the transition highlighting the major initiatives Bankole had engineered for the company while also asserting that he continues to remain a member of the board. Furthermore, he mentioned that the transition of Bankole from a major player in Big Cabal Media was only stalled for a short while until structures and processes were put in place so that the company can continue to run without his active involvement.

In a tweet by Femi Longe, he mentioned the need to call it a day in his 9 years involvement at CcHub and that the timing of the decade is a crucial time for him to take on a new challenge. He mentioned his next project Qiesto App and will continue to remain in the community but in another position. His why for joining the tech industry and starting CcHub remains the same but has unfolded from providing innovators with the push and support to tackle big problems like government corruption and waste management to raising Africa’s youth employability.

Qiesto App is a platform that allows young people to use and showcase their competencies as a means to get meaningful jobs, further their studies or entrepreneurship. The platform will launch in the coming month from Nigeria but would scale across different countries in Africa solving the problem of employment for both job seekers and employers through education with digital technology.

With these two shocks to the tech ecosystem, we do not know how the businesses will continue to deliver as these individuals have been an embodiment of their businesses. We do know that the tech community will miss them and look forward to the amazing things they will continue to do.

Today, I will leave you with a word about the need for growth which Anais Nin said

And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
