Brief History of the Artiste and His Musical Style
Martins was born in 1978 in Lagos State, Nigeria, into a family of six children. He began singing in his local church choir during his school years and, while studying law at university, worked as a backup singer, receiving his first paid engagement in 1997. Upon graduating and being called to the Nigerian Bar, he chose instead to pursue music full-time, launching his recording career in 2006 with the album Happy Day. Music critics and fans describe Martins’s style as “crossover,” reflecting his uncommon ability to weave together R\&B, high-life, jazz fusion and both traditional and contemporary gospel elements. His compositions often feature call-and-response choruses rooted in Yoruba musical traditions, underpinned by modern production techniques that appeal to both church and secular audiences.Register to attend the Connect Nigeria Business Mixer
