Brief History of the Artiste and Her Musical Style

Raised in a musically inclined household in Ikorodu, Lagos, Allyson pursued formal studies in music, earning a Higher National Diploma in Music Technology from The Polytechnic, Ibadan. While at Ibadan, she honed her vocal and songwriting skills, later working as a voice coach and counsellor. In 2003, she leveraged her theatre connections to score the film Eji Owuro, releasing the accompanying album to critical acclaim and launching her recording career. Critics characterize Allyson’s music as a blend of soul and folk infused with traditional Yoruba rhythms and contemporary gospel motifs. She frequently writes and sings in Yoruba, English, and other Nigerian languages, employing call-and-response structures and acoustic instrumentation (often guitar and subtle percussion) to create intimate worship experiences. Her lyrics emphasize personal testimony, social upliftment, and theological reflection, resonating with both church congregants and secular listeners.
